Lambafell, over Hellisheiði

Pictures are at the bottom...

Another sunny day, another mountain. Heading up Lambafell made for 5 days walking out of 7. This was another peak out of "Íslensk Fjöll" but the track notes, normally so good, were a bit out of date here. There's two great big quarries on the eastern side, which have basically taken over any walker parking that used to exist, and have also taken up the normal way up, or where I feel that would have been.

However, hiking up bulldozer tracks, while not particularly scenic, is actually much much faster than scree and moss. I was on top in just under half an hour, not the 1-2 hours in the book. (I'm normally only marginally under the guide times)

Anyway, got up, got some exercise. The peak has a cairn, and a good view over the area behind Bláfjöll, but was completely devoid of footsteps. It must have been a little while since someone was up here, perhaps even this summer. It takes a good bit of rain to relevel the scree. Good views, but very bright harsh sunlight, so not much in the way of pictures. Had a good rest, watched the traffic flow, stacked some rocks for the next visitors then fell/ran back down the bulldozer track. (It only goes about half way up, but it goes up the entire steep section)

Was welcomed back to the car by a raven, sitting on top of what almost looked like climbable rock. Interesting
