Summerhouse on the Golden Circle

Pictures are at the bottom...

There was meant to be a work pissup on the saturday night, but Guido, a friend from school had booked a summer house out near Laugarvatn, and drinking in the countryside always trumps drinking in Reykjavik.

Drove out to a very nice summer house, that one of Guido's colleagues had designed, and sat around in the deepening dusk and drank coffee and chatted. Later on Guido's friends Sara and Ellen arrived, after battling their way over hellisheiði (The pass between Reykajvik and Hvergerði) in the driving rain with only one wiper working.

With company it was no definitely time to bbq and open some beers, and the night proceeded accordingly. We ate, we gossiped, we drank. We were meant to be listening to some music too, but we didn't find the cd player until the next morning. Always the last place you look. Just like my camera, which I looked for to take some people pictures, but again, didn't find it until the morning. (It was sitting on the table, instead of in my bag where I was looking for it :) )

We were in the country, so we couldn't just get up, have breakfast and drive home, that would be lazy. So we headed out to Geysir and Gullfoss. All a little bit hungover though some of us a bit more than others.

Geysir was Geysir, it's lovely, but seeing rednecks chuck rocks into the pools, and seem completely taken aback when we yelled at them to stop reminded me of why we call them tourons, and why I can't even imagine driving the golden circle in summer.

Gullfoss was beautiful as always, lots of beautiful fresh snow on the ground. We just need a bit more of it, so we can go skiing. Then home again home again. No map, Guido's car is defective when it comes to supplying power to geeky devices.
